My dad always called me his princess. We did not see each other very often due to living so far apart. But I thought the world of my dad, as he did me. My dad died of bowel cancer when I was 19.
It broke my heart to see him so poorly and I know too that he hated me seeing him like that.
My dad to me was, as dads should be my hero.
It saddens me that he never met his two granchildren. Nor did he get to be with me on my wedding day, this is why we chose to marry abroad on our own, it was too hard without my mum and dad.
It does get easier as time goes on but it is then also longer since you've seen them.
